Flash floods kill 24 in Indonesia, thousands of homes damaged

Streak surges and avalanches killed 24 individuals in Indonesia's Central Java territory, authorities said on Sunday, constraining inhabitants to clear to more secure territories as heavy rains harmed a large number of homes.

Salvage groups hunt down 26 other people who stayed missing after the district, among the most thickly populated parts of the nation, saw substantial precipitation overnight.

"Overwhelming precipitation has brought on surges and avalanches in 16 regimes in Central Java," Sutopo Nugroho, representative for the national catastrophe alleviation organization, said in an announcement.

"Salvage groups from the military, police, NGOs and volunteers, are adding to the treatment of the crisis and the quest proceeds for those as yet missing," he included.
