Iran names new armed forces chief

Iran named Major General Mohammad Baqeri as leader of the military, state media gave an account of Tuesday.

Preeminent Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who is president of the military, issued the declaration naming Baqeri.

It said he has been working in Khatam al Anbia Headquarters (KAA), the designing arm of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) that serves to help the IRGC produce salary and asset its operations.

The previous leader of the military, Major General Hassan Firouzabadi, has been selected senior counselor to the Supreme Leader.
