The European Commission said on Saturday Scotland was a piece of the United Kingdom and declined to "hypothesize further" after First Minister Nicola Sturgeon called for converses with the European Union to keep Scotland in the alliance.
"Scotland is a piece of the UK," a Commission representative told Reuters. "Sacred courses of action apply. We won't guess further."
Sturgeon said Scotland would get ready for a conceivable crisp autonomy vote after Britain voted to leave the 28-country EU on Friday. Scots voted vigorously for staying in.
